AWAKE: A Vampire Tale
Character Sketches
I have always been both a writer and a visual artist My journals, except for my very first journal, have all been a mix of writing, scrawling, sketching, drawing, and quotes. (The first was a star trek captains log book, hence: punctilious. I wrote the date thus: Star Date 10.13.1994. I was 13.)
I started drawing the character sketch during the spaces between. The times when I did not know what was going to happen next but was thinking about Titian and Quinn and Ella and Erin. The intermissions.

I think drawing and writing have vast similarities. Each is bringing forth a concept of the mind, attempting to render it into words and lines and colors. On the best days, an artist steps back from a drawing or rereads a paragraph and discovers that there is more in their words than they had intended.
The day I colored Titian's hair was one of those days. (I would still like to ink in a halo of black around her, see her shining in the darkness.)
The day I did the standing sketch was not. I redid that sketch and would tack it over the upper corner.

Titian wears converse sneakers. They are worn, patched, written on, and beloved. As all the best converse sneakers are.
